Eastern Redbud
The Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis) is a magnificent native tree that gets about 25’ tall and wide. The Eastern Redbud is one of the grandest trees of Spring with a lovely natural shape at at maturity. I think it is cool that the blooms appear on the old bark/branches before the leaves develop. Blooms in March/April here is NC. They will develop clusters of long green pods that turn brown. Each pod will contain 4-10 seeds. They prefer soil with a pH of 7.5 or above but will grow in a wide range of pH.
