Coreopsis

Also called "Tickseed," Coreopsis is a wonderful perennial ground cover that range in colors from yellow to burgundy. With new cultivars emerging every year, the options are ever vast and ever-expanding.
Unlike its more popular lace leaf variety, my coreopsis has darker green leaves with bright yellow blooms that look a bit like a daisy.  Early spring blooms shoot up on long stems.  It is very drought tolerant.  I like the bright contrast of the yellow on the dark green leaves.  It is in the aster family (with the daisy, Black-Eyed Susan, and yarrow).  It grows in clumps and it is not hard to separate and propagate.
